Christmas Giving Tree

Sistema^® hosted another Giving Tree to support families in need this Christmas, in support of The Kindness Collective. The Kindness Collective deliver Christmas to children in need all over the country, with presents collected in each region staying local for local kids. A Giving Tree was put up at Reception for staff to donate new toys, books, board games and sports gear for children ages 1 to 16. All the toys donated were delivered to the Kindness Collective, at their Neilson Street Joy Store. If you’d like to know more, please check out the Kindness Collective.

Kindness Collective Foundation

We recently donated some Sistema^® products to the Kindness Collective Foundation. Kindness Collective is a New Zealand charity that provides children and families with the things they need (from everyday essentials to moments of joy). We are so pleased to hear they have shared the Sistema^® products amongst so many amazing charities and schools including Everybody Eats, I Love Avondale, Give a Kid a Blanket, May Road School, Wesley Primary School, Birdwood School, Flat Bush Primary School, Taonga Education Centre, MDM Refuge and Kāhui Tū Kaha. The donation provided 2,500 deserving children with new lunch boxes and drink bottles, and charity organisations with 1,200 storage containers!

Our rice cooker features a pressure chamber plate that allows any overflow to be collected then drained back into the cooking pot base container. To help you get the most out of your product we would like to offer some cooking guidelines and useful tips.

Cooking guidelines:

Cooking times and water levels are approximate and should be adjusted according to grain type and microwave power setting. If salt is added, cooking times may need to be increased. For specialty rice such as wild rice or brown rice, refer to the cooking instructions on the rice packaging.

For best results:

Rinse the rice in a sieve under cold running water until the water runs clear (unless otherwise stated on the packaging). Use cold water when cooking. Position the lid so that the holes in the top lid and pressure chamber plate are offset. Use the easy lift tabs on the lid to safely pick up the product after cooking. Allow cooked rice to stand for a minimum of 5 minutes, then fluff the rice with the rice spoon provided before serving.

For your satisfaction & safety:

Do not cook rice or other grains at any time without water. Do not add any fat or oil to the water or use liquid with fat content such as milk. Do not use sharp utensils. To avoid boil-over do not overfill. For rice with high starch content we recommend cooking smaller quantities. Remove lid with care after cooking to avoid hot steam burning hands or face. Open the lid away from you using the easy lift tabs on the lid. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scrub pads.

General Instructions:

Wash the Sistema® Microwave container before first use. Always make sure the lid is locked on and the vent is open before re-heating. When re-heating food cook in short intervals, 1-2 minutes so you don’t overheat the food. Cut raw food in small even sizes to promote a quicker cooking time. When cooking time ends, stir food and make sure it is cooked through. If it is not done, replace the lid and cook in 30 second – 1 minute increments until cooked through. If storing food in the container make sure to close the vent on top.

*These recipes were prepared using a 950 watt microwave. Cooking times will vary depending on the wattage of the microwave used. These are based on imperial measurements.

For best results ALWAYS make sure there is enough moisture either in the food or the container. Our recipes list recommended cooking times however you should check your food during the cooking process as the power of microwave ovens vary.

Basic cooking times:

Green Beans

1 cup – cook 1-2 minutes 2 cups – cook 2-3 minutes (microwave in short 1-2 minute intervals to avoid overheating)

Broccoli florets

1 cup – cook 2 minutes 3 cups – cook 3 minutes (microwave in short 1-2 minute intervals to avoid overheating)

Cauliflower

1 cup – add 1 tbs water and cook 2 minutes 3 cups – add 2 tbs water and cook 3 minutes (microwave in short 1-2 minute intervals to avoid overheating)

Carrot coins

1 cup – add 1 tbs water and cook 2 minutes 3 cups – add 2 tbs water and cook 3 minutes (microwave in short 1-2 minute intervals to avoid overheating)

Frozen mixed vegetables

1 cup – cook 3 minutes (microwave in short 1-2 minute intervals to avoid overheating) 3 cups – cook 5 minutes (microwave in short 1-2 minute intervals to avoid overheating)

If after cooking time you want your vegetables softer cook in 30 second intervals until desired texture.

Helping The Homeless In Our Community

Sistema^® is proud to support Island Child Charitable Trust. Based in Point England, the Trust provides transitional housing to hundreds of families and individuals facing homelessness in Auckland each year. 

Sistema^® has donated more than 100 lunch boxes and drink bottles that will be used by students and children staying on site. CEO Drew Muirhead paid the team a special visit to hand-deliver the lunch boxes.

Island Child Founder Danielle Bergin says, “We are so grateful for Sistema’s generous donation. Whanau arrive here with few possessions, so these lunch boxes and drink bottles will be something they can own and feel proud of.”
