EVERYDAY DRINK BOTTLE MADE WITH A DIFFERENCE

Ocean-bound plastic refers to plastic waste that has been improperly disposed of on land, shores, waterways, and river areas, which poses a risk of polluting the ocean. Plastic waste generated within a 50 km radius of coastlines is often mismanaged and can potentially become marine debris in the ocean.1 Plastic waste that is disposed of properly in landfills or organised dump sites is not categorised as ocean bound.

SISTEMA® REVIVE™ BOTTLE FAQs
Q: What is ocean bound plastic?
Ocean-bound plastic is plastic waste that has not been disposed of properly and therefore poses a risk of polluting the ocean. This waste is typically generated within 50 km of coastlines and is frequently mismanaged, leading to the potential for it to become marine debris in the ocean.1 This mismanaged waste, which can ultimately find its way into the ocean through various means such as inland waterways, wastewater outflows, or transportation by wind or tides, consists of material that is either littered or not correctly disposed of and is not formally managed, and may end up in uncontrolled landfills or dumps without proper containment.1 Plastic waste that is disposed of correctly in landfills or organised dump sites is not considered ocean-bound.
