Christmas Giving Tree

Sistema^® hosted another Giving Tree to support families in need this Christmas, in support of The Kindness Collective. The Kindness Collective deliver Christmas to children in need all over the country, with presents collected in each region staying local for local kids. A Giving Tree was put up at Reception for staff to donate new toys, books, board games and sports gear for children ages 1 to 16. All the toys donated were delivered to the Kindness Collective, at their Neilson Street Joy Store. If you’d like to know more, please check out the Kindness Collective.

Kindness Collective Foundation

We recently donated some Sistema^® products to the Kindness Collective Foundation. Kindness Collective is a New Zealand charity that provides children and families with the things they need (from everyday essentials to moments of joy). We are so pleased to hear they have shared the Sistema^® products amongst so many amazing charities and schools including Everybody Eats, I Love Avondale, Give a Kid a Blanket, May Road School, Wesley Primary School, Birdwood School, Flat Bush Primary School, Taonga Education Centre, MDM Refuge and Kāhui Tū Kaha. The donation provided 2,500 deserving children with new lunch boxes and drink bottles, and charity organisations with 1,200 storage containers!

At Sistema^® we value our employees and having top quality safety measures in place is key. With help from SaferMe’s latest technology, we can ensure Covid contact tracing is faster and more efficient, meaning our staff are protected if an outbreak occurs.

Helping The Homeless In Our Community

Sistema^® is proud to support Island Child Charitable Trust. Based in Point England, the Trust provides transitional housing to hundreds of families and individuals facing homelessness in Auckland each year. 

Sistema^® has donated more than 100 lunch boxes and drink bottles that will be used by students and children staying on site. CEO Drew Muirhead paid the team a special visit to hand-deliver the lunch boxes.

Island Child Founder Danielle Bergin says, “We are so grateful for Sistema’s generous donation. Whanau arrive here with few possessions, so these lunch boxes and drink bottles will be something they can own and feel proud of.”

Beach Clean Up Event

On Thursday 16th January 2020 approximately 50 staff from Sistema’s Office and Production volunteered and took part in a coastal clean up event at the waterfront reserve at the end of the road where the factory is located.  We chose an area in our community so we could have a positive impact on the state of ocean rubbish in our local area.

The event was organised in collaboration with Sustainable Coastlines (www.sustainablecoastlines.org).  Sustainable Coastlines is a New Zealand charity whose mission is to enable people to look after the coastlines and waterways they love by coordinating and providing support to organise coastal clean ups, educational programmes, public awareness campaigns and riparian planting projects. 

The group split up into two groups and headed in opposite directions along the coast so we could collect as much rubbish as possible.  The event was a huge success and we removed 820 litres of rubbish from the coast.  This equated to 22 litres per person which is above the average amount collected during this type of event.  

We collected an array of rubbish, but the main types were glass and glass bottles, single-use plastic bottles, cans, unidentified plastic pieces, polystyrene, cloth, clothing and shoes and farm debris such as fence wire, shotgun casings and rope.  This was a real eye opener for the volunteers as it highlighted the amount of rubbish that actually makes its way to the oceans – rubbish that could be avoided if people chose more sustainable alternatives, recycled items where possible or disposed of their rubbish correctly.  

We look forward to planning more events like this in the future to help reduce the amount of rubbish in our community and our oceans.
